Come Bet FAQ
How the Come bet works and when it makes mathematical sense.
What is a Come bet in craps?
A Come bet works exactly like a Pass Line bet but is placed after a point has already been established. The next roll acts as your personal come-out roll. A 7 or 11 wins, 2, 3, or 12 loses, and any other number becomes your Come point.
What is the house edge on the Come bet?
The Come bet carries a 1.41% house edge, identical to the Pass Line. It is one of the best bets on the table and becomes even stronger when backed with free odds.
Does the Come bet have better odds than the Pass Line?
No. They have the exact same 1.41% house edge and the same win probability of 49.29%. The only difference is timing: the Pass Line is placed before the come-out roll, while the Come bet is placed after a point is established.
Can I take odds on a Come bet?
Yes. Once your Come bet travels to a point number, you can back it with free odds just like a Pass Line bet. The odds bet pays at true odds (6:5 on 6/8, 3:2 on 5/9, 2:1 on 4/10) with zero house edge.
Why would I use Come bets instead of Place bets?
Come bets with odds carry a lower combined house edge than Place bets. A Come bet with 3-4-5x odds has an effective edge around 0.37%. Place 6/8 sits at 1.52%, and Place 5/9 at 4.00%. The math favors Come bets every time.
What happens to my Come bet if the shooter sevens out?
If your Come bet has already traveled to a point number, you lose it when a 7 is rolled. However, if you have a new Come bet sitting on the Come line during that roll, the 7 counts as a win for that specific bet.
How many Come bets should I have working at once?
That depends on your bankroll and risk tolerance, not on any mathematical advantage. Each Come bet carries the same 1.41% edge regardless of how many you have working. More Come bets means more action and higher variance, but the edge per bet stays constant.
Is the Come bet a contract bet?
Yes. Once a Come bet travels to a point number, you cannot remove the flat portion. You can, however, remove or reduce the odds portion at any time. Since the odds carry no house edge, there is rarely a mathematical reason to pull them down.
Do Come bets work on the come-out roll?
Come bets already on point numbers are typically "off" during the come-out roll unless you tell the dealer to keep them working. If they are off, a 7 on the come-out does not affect them. Check with the table for their default rule.
Can I use Come bets as part of a low-edge strategy?
Yes. A Pass Line plus two Come bets, all backed with maximum free odds, is one of the lowest combined house edges available in any casino. The strategy gives you coverage across three numbers while keeping the effective edge below 0.5%.
